About Me

My photo
Based in Northampton, UK, I live with my husband Adam, our Cocker Spaniel Bruno and Deeley the Bengal cat. I work full time as a Creative Artist / 3D Designer and part-time with my creative endeavours. I hope you'll enjoy reading about my work and other random ramblings, from the satisfying successes to the catastrophic failures! Still, it's all good fun, which is kind of the whole point really...

Here it is, the new Fly Fishing medallion!
Danielle, who won the naming competition chose to receive a Bronze copy of Fly Fishing as her prize, I've started work on that copy but it's not polished up just yet. I the mean-time I've also cast an Aluminium, a Copper and a split Bronze/Brass copy. The Aluminium and Split Bronze/Brass copies are all finished up and here they are:

Aluminium

Split Bronze/Brass

Here is another shot of the Aluminium copy, showing another view of one of the horses.

And here is an alternative image of the Split Bronze/Brass copy, which shows how the polished metal shines in the sunlight.

I'm happy to say I got my entry in for the RESS BAS Relief Competition, and I also managed to enter the Mare and Foal medallion too, which is wonderful as I thought I wouldn't be able to get that one in! Just have to wait for a few months now for the results, I wish it were sooner BUT for an in-depth critique from some of the best names in the hobby, I'm pretty happy to wait!

You may have noticed a lack of images of unpainted resin copies of Fly Fishing - I've been struggling a bit to get good clean casts from the mold, it seems my over-enthusiasm for detailing in the manes has caused an issue! This means I'll be holding off releasing resin copies of this model until I've slightly re-worked the clay original and smoothed it just enough to avoid some of the air-bubble issues. I'll also try to make the circular "base" a little more substantial, as it is currently very thin. In the mean-time I plan to sell a few metal finish models, so watch out on MH$P and possibly Auction Barn for any sales models.

Kelly I love this new medallion!!! would you consider trading one for one of my new ones when its cast in resin? I ordered the rubber and will be casting it in the next few weeks. to see pics of it you can see it on my blog at www.solticeartstudio.blogspot.com
I had also considered entering the ress contest.. but.. I think Im glad I didnt! lol I think you may win!!.. really I just cant even afford the small entry fee right now.. things are that tight! I love the concept of this one you did, and how you worked it out.. congrats on that! no small feat! I love it! cant wait to see what you come up wit next.. Id also love to talk to you about casting with these metals.. Id like to try it too.. can you email me the info on where to get the metals and the cost? and how to do it? do you just mix it with the resin? . any problems to watch out for? I did just order a filler to try that gives the resin a more ceramic feel. I plan on trying that to see how it works out.. also what kind of rubber are you suing for your molds? just curious about that is all..I may learn something! lol. I use smooth on's products..I ordered the brushon 40 for the next batch since I need it for a waste mold for a large clay sculpt.. anyways.. hope to hear from you soon!
