Studio Update

Wowsa, it’s been a busy month!!

The Utterly Horses Hullabaloo foal now has a name!  The winner of the competition was Jackie Hasser with her suggestion, so he is now named “Union Jack”.

This last month has been spent casting the 162 copies of Union Jack that will be available at the Utterly Horses Hullabaloo event in a few weeks.  I’ve had a lot of trouble with the rubber I use for my molds as they’ve just not been lasting very long so I’ve spent as much time making molds as I have casting foals.  I’ve made a total of ten (yes ten!) molds so far! I’m using coloured rubber bands to indicate which mold each model was from, this helps me keep track of how many I’m getting from the molds but also makes it easier to clean them, as each mold has it’s own characteristics.

All of the 162 models are now cast and I am working on getting all those seams tidied in good time for the show.

I’ve had many questions about casting while I’ve been posting daily updates on Facebook, so I’ll set up a separate post detailing how Union Jack was cast.

Recently I have been sent some wonderful photos from artists that have painted up copies of my sculptures, here’s a selection of fresh faces you might see out on the show circuit:

This incredibly detailed pair of Very Little One models have been painted by Georgie Haynes (don’t forget they’re just one inch long!):

This Sweet Lullaby and Very Little One combi were both painted by Anne Healion:

Max Lahrmann painted this Sweet Lullaby to a very realistic bay roan:

This pair have been painted by Clare Stokes, I love the ethereal background, I’m half expecting them to sprout wings and fly away at any moment!

Deb Brown came up trumps again with this stunning chestnut sabino Sweet Lullaby, which was sold via eBay.

…and Donna Lorello shared photos with me of two Sweet Lullaby models she painted as commissions. Beautiful detail on these Donna! :
